recent moments

hi, I’m karin
As a dedicated storyteller specializing in artistic, refined photography and videography, I take a minimalist approach; focusing on human connection and authentic moments. My style is natural and intuitive, allowing the true emotions of your wedding day to unfold with honesty and beauty. I believe the most meaningful memories are found in candid, heartfelt interactions.
Shaped by a life rich in cultural experiences, I bring a unique perspective to every story I capture. Born in Brazil, I spent nearly a decade just outside Vancouver, raised my children in the artistic heart of Florence, Italy, and now enjoy the tranquility of Vancouver Island.
My love for photography began in my early teens, when I took my first professional course back home in Brazil. At the time, film photography was the only option, and it gave me a solid foundation in both technique and theory. Later, during university, I had the chance to dive deeper into film development, and I was captivated by the hands-on process.
In my commitment to both refined artistry and conscious sustainability, I’ve adopted an exceptional botanical alternative to traditional chemical film development. Through careful research and hands-on experimentation, I now offer a service unlike any other: the option for couples to have their wedding photographs developed using flowers and foliage from their own bouquet or event design. This elevated process not only celebrates the timeless elegance of analog photography, but also transforms each image into a personal, tangible extension of the day itself.
Videography came later in my journey, while living in Italy. It opened a new approach to storytelling, allowing me to relive experiences and capture movement and emotion in fresh ways. My skills grew through meaningful collaborations with local architects, where I had the privilege of capturing their exquisite villas and Italian gardens through both photography and video. These experiences enriched my creative process and broadened my perspective on visual storytelling.
Alongside capturing weddings and telling love stories through my lens, I teach art and photography to high school students in Nanaimo; sharing with them the same excitement, curiosity, and creative process that first drew me in. I often talk to my students about the decisive moment; a concept inspired by Cartier-Bresson. It's that fleeting, split-second instant when composition, story, light, and emotion align in perfect visual harmony to reveal something deeper and more truthful. For me, wedding days are filled with decisive moments. They happen in a glance, a touch, a burst of laughter, a quiet tear, in the completely unexpected; like a bird landing on a groomsman's hand at just the right moment, or the instant a chairlift leaves the station. They can't be staged or repeated; they simply unfold. Being present to recognize them, and ready to capture them, is one of the things I love most about photographing weddings.
My work is driven by a profound love for human experiences; the genuine connections, emotions, and stories that make each wedding unique. Capturing those intimate moments allows me to celebrate the beauty of love and life, preserving memories for a lifetime.
